PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
MOTION VIDEO Portland, OR 11/93 - Present
Director of New Product Development
Responsible for all new product development with the new video group. Duties include managing both Hardware and Software Engineering departments and researching new technologies such as MPEG and JPEG video compression techniques. Work closely with marketing, sales and manufacturing to define, develop and introduce new products within schedule, budget and performance constraints. Products being developed include video routing systems, master control switchers, facility automation software and a digital disk-based JPEG video storage system.
Introduced a new product development procedure that formalized and streamlined the development and introduction into manufacturing of new products. As a result, development time and costs were reduced by 10%.
Introduced object oriented methodology (OOA/OOD) as a software engineering process to the company. As a result, we greatly improved the documentation of new software and increased software schedule accuracy by 50%.
Built the engineering organization from a staff of 14 up to a staff of 30 in a period of one year.
Headed up the team that developed and performed the vendor qualification process for controlled impedance printed circuit board suppliers. This resulted in a reduction of scrap material costs of over 30% for this year.
Participated in ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) research effort. This effort is being used to guide future product strategies for the entire corporation.
Researched UL, FCC, CE (European) NEBS (Bellcore) requirements to determine their pertinence to Motion Video products.
WISDOM TECHNOLOGY Fremont, CA 8/88 - 11/93
Engineering Project Manager 12/90 - 11/93
Project manager for the development of the Series E900 analog and digital video routing system. The Series E900 has become the most successful routing product ever to be produced by Wisdom with sales last fiscal year of $18,000,000.
Managed an engineering organization consisting of 12 hardware and firmware engineers.
Managed the development and introduction into production of the product line. By insisting that manufacturing be involved in all stages of design, production start up problems were reduced significantly.
Provide technical leadership for product definition and design by making extensive use of surface mount and controlled impedance PCB technologies.
Demonstrated the product at major trade shows and to potential customers, increasing company’s market share.
Senior Engineer 8/88 - 12/90
Video, audio and firmware circuit designer and project engineer. Duties included design, supervision of printed circuit board layout, testing and verification of prototypes and producing all the necessary documentation to release a design into manufacturing.
Designed circuitry for use in video processing amplifiers, test signal generators, and distribution amplifiers, hitting all milestones for time to market.
